For Exceptional and Effective SPEECH....!!!!

We as students on various platforms are demanded to speak. It may even be in the form of speech in our  school/college functions and even in debates, special events and elocution obviously . So here are some tips which I got and I would like to share it to you.
On 3rd Nov,2017 we had a wonderful session of Oratory Communication Skills  with Seema Dongre through Chanakya Mandal’s Foundation Course. This indeed was very helpful and analogous to us with respect to public speaking. She was speaking with utmost confidence and up to the point. She clarified how she liked to speak, in which conditions and how we should determine our comfort zone in order to have better & effective speech.
The points she spoke were basically about how to have a better & effective speech.
Following were the points she told we should have:-
For a better & Effective Speech:-
  • ·         Pre-work for a SPEECH
  • ·         Work during SPEECH
  • ·         After SPEECH analysis

Now we will see each one in detail
In Pre-work there are 5 points to be considered:-

      1.   Know your audience-
This means that you should know the people whom you are going to address. You should have a basic knowledge about their age, capacity to understand, Educational background & the very important point of interest.
          2. Know your material-

This refers that you should be completely acquainted to your topic. You should have a deep, 360° knowledge about the topic we are going to speak. You should try to anticipate the questions which the audience may ask & prepare satisfying answers to it. Reading books unconditionally can help get touch to many topics.
     3. Know the Room-
You should be well aware of your place of speech by knowing the disturbances, point of distractions. If you have a presentation during your speech you should also plan your response if the presentation does to starts.

          4.  Visualize & Affirmations-
You should able to visualize some of moments during your speech which you have planned. It may be how came in, how people laughed when you cracked a joke etc. Affricating yourself continuously is yet another good step to maintain your self-confidence. E.g-”Ok you can do this, Nothing happens if pronounced the other way.”
               5.Practice-
Practice of giving some mistaken speeches is required before the final speech. Texting the speech and giving it in front of the mirror are some of the ways to improve yourself. We also can video record the speech so that we can see where our expressions went wrong or contrary to the text spoken.

Now we will see the points to do during the SPEECH-
   1. Relax
This though feels like casual point it is very important when you actually are to begin a speech. Sometimes the situations may be undesirable and staying calm in it too is the real challenge.

          2.   Start-
We should decide how we want the first impact of our speech. Are we going to start by introducing ourselves or with a joke, poem or even a short story? We should say only the things which we actually mean and not the typical sayings.

          3.  Body language-
We should decide the clothing we are going to wear for the speech. Does it suits to the event, our topic and the most important are we comfortable with it. We should notice the annoying things for the public and our natural actions.
          4.    Voice modulations/language-
Your attempt should always be to speak only in a single language. The language must be practical and not completely ideological. The voice should alter according to the depth, complexity of the point we are speaking. Otherwise it should be moderate but clear & loud enough.
          5.    End-
The end or the conclusion should contain a gist of the topic we spoke the whole speech. So that our listeners should have a chance to recollect a topic he/she may have left. It also may have a short poem, story which tells the topic in short.

At last we will look to the analysis of our SPEECH-
This topic can more comfortably be explained through a paragraph. How to analysis may have several options like-
1.    Self-analysis-
We can recall our speech and think that does it went as planned, met the standards we opt.
2.     Feedback-
We can ask some of our friends or even strangers in the audience for better improvements.

This essentially covers all the points which a effective speaker would require but continuously acting upon it and rigorously bringing change in the self realized faults is the matter of real importance. This may not happen in a short span but your confidence from each speech, each mistake will drive you.  Hope this would help you to be an effective speaker.
