China's Artificial Islands -An ominous indication...!!!
Increasing China's intentional influence in the south China sea has now became the issue of importance. Ambitious China is trying to have its powerful influence in the South China by creating artificial island outside its prescribed maritime boundary. This problem came into limelight when America took notice and sent their troops in the China sea to counter the dragon.
Most of the problem arises because China does not accept the pact by UN and has marked its own nine dotted line which covers more than 90% of South China sea. The nine dotted line moves from the Exclusive Economic Zones(EEZ)nailed by (United Nations convention on Laws of Sea)UNCLOS 's Article 55 and Article 56 of the surrounding nations.The surrounding nations are comparatively weak in military power and are geographically small so competitive nations like USA and India have to check and question China about its policies.China has deemed this strategy as the "CABBAGE STRATEGY" which is a metaphor for expanding their power to have a better control over the area. This has became issue of concern as ever-expanding China is building and has constructed military bases on these islands. From the images by USA media and some of the military planes owned to USA have showed that before 2014 these islands didn't exist but abruptly these now have dominance over the region. Moreover there are also chances of the islands having radar, missile systems and many more such military activities. There has been no official notification from the Chinese government about the military activities but they have only told it is just for livelihood. There are also news that China is trying to infiltrate the other islands which they do not owe by trying to border the island with its military ships. This does not allows the locals to go for shipping or for raw materials near the islands. China prohibits the international media to go on the islands through their side.
The second most important aim which China satisfies by these moves is to have rights to exploit the natural resources in the area where they have domination. Its estimated that the sea-bed around the nine dotted line has 11 billion barrels of oil and 190 trillion feet cubic natural gas.
This would further power China. But it doesn't seems to know that only military expansion may not help to become superpower. Leaders can only be leaders when they take the team together, solve the problems of their team members, own respect in their minds work for the betterment of the team a a whole and not by only merely governing them with a stick in hand. America was and perhaps is the superpower in the world because it has tried to solve problems of nations up to a certain extent. No doubt that the recent situations have changed and they have changed their policies from external development focus to internal one. But now it would have impact on its influence on the world surely.
The main point is that these China's strategies would not help it to become superpower. But I'm optimistic about India's approach towards superpower as a strong and competent nation to counter any unusual activities of any nations. Hope China would have a little changes in its moves for the betterment for itself and for world peace.
